Libraries, Computing and Technology (LCT) is composed of eight academic support units with a common mission and collaborative approach to facilitating effective scholarship and work at Michigan State University by connecting people and information. The Vice Provost for LCT reports to the Provost and works very closely with the Vice President for Finance and Operations. LCT is the steward of MSU’s libraries and archives; its technology infrastructure for central academic and business information; its technology services, including support and training for users, in collaboration and sharing responsibility with academic and other support units; its overall vision for technology at MSU; and its related policy and business practices. LCT actively develops and implements policy, plans technology-related faculty development and instructional technology, manages the budget for LCT, and administers the Teaching and Learning Environment account.

David Gift is Vice Provost for Libraries, Computing and Technology, and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Radiology, at Michigan State University. An alumnus of MSU, with degrees in Physics (B.S.) and Computer Science (M.S.), David also is an Alfred P. Sloan Fellow of the MIT Sloan School of Management (Master of Science in Management, S.M.). He has served most recently as Assistant Vice President for Integrative Management, and prior to that as Assistant Chairperson of Radiology, and Interim Director of Strategy and Implementation for MSU’s Faculty Group Practice; has taught and contributed to curriculum development in MSU’s Colleges of Human Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, Eli Broad Graduate School of Management, and the University Graduate School. He has served as a founder and member of the Board of Directors of four University joint venture corporations: Mid-Michigan MRI, University Rehabilitation Alliance, Radiation Oncology Alliance, and Great Lakes Cancer Institute; and is currently a member and chair of the Board of Directors of Merit Network; Extended Board member of the community-source Kuali Financial Systems and Kuali Research Administration Systems projects (www.kuali.org), member of the Microsoft Higher Education Advisory Group; chair-elect of the CIC Chief Information Officers Group and chair of the CIC OmniPoP Executive Committee. He has been a member of the Executive Council of the National Consortium for Continuous Improvement in Higher Education, and a consultant to a wide array of private and public entities, including the General Electric Company; Commonwealth Government of Australia; governmental agencies of the United States, Michigan and Hawaii; Society of Nuclear Medicine; and hospitals in several states and Canada.
