Acting Provost Thomas D. Jeitschko

Thomas D. Jeitschko, acting provostThomas D. Jeitschko is serving as Acting Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs while also holding the position of Associate Provost for Graduate Education and Dean of the Graduate School at Michigan State University. In that role, he supports MSU’s graduate and graduate-professional students, and postdocs, and oversees and supports the Masters, Professional, and Ph.D. programs across the 14 graduate degree granting colleges. Jeitschko is a Professor of Economics who previously served as the Director of the American Economic Association Summer Program—a two-month intensive pre-doctoral residential program that prepares talented undergraduate students from under-represented backgrounds for graduate work in economics and related fields.

He has developed and implemented a university-wide strategic plan around graduate education, created an office of postdoctoral affairs, is leading the integration of the College of Law into MSU, and serves as co-chair of the executive committee overseeing the student information system modernizations. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Counsel of Graduate Schools (CGS) and on the Deans Leadership Group of CGS’s Career Pathways project and is a member of the GRE Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.

Jeitschko holds an advanced degree from the University of Münster in Germany in Economic History and a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia in Mathematical Economics. At MSU he has taught graduate courses and served on Ph.D. committees in the Colleges of Social Science, Business, Engineering, Ag and Natural Resources, and Law.

His research interests are in applied economic theory, including game theory, industrial organization, and law and economics. He has published in a wide variety of journals and served on multiple editorial boards. He has also worked at the U.S. Department of Justice, often advises States Attorneys General throughout the U.S., and has been retained by the USDOJ as an expert. Prior to his appointment at MSU, Thomas has held faculty positions at Royal Holloway College, University of London, and Texas A&M University.
