Associate Provost for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and Dean of the Graduate School Search Update

December 22, 2021

I write with an update on the search for our next Associate Provost for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and Dean of the Graduate School. As you know, Thomas Jeitschko has transitioned to the role of Senior Associate Provost. He will complete his leadership of the Graduate School on December 31 and I ask that you join me in thanking him once again for the ways in which he has transformed graduate education and advocated for the learning experiences and career trajectories of our graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. As you also know, a search committee, chaired by Teresa Mastin, was seated and charged, and a deep pool of applicants was received by the committee, supported by Faculty and Academic Staff Affairs (FASA).

As the committee work will extend into January 2022, I have elected to appoint a responsible administrator for the short gap between December 31 and the seating of our next dean and associate provost. I am happy to report that Associate Dean Eric Torng has agreed to serve in this capacity. I am grateful for his service to the School and for his leadership during this transition. I also thank the search committee and Suzanne Lang for their diligence to the institution.

Finally, thank you for your support of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and their development as scholars. Please enjoy the holidays and I look forward to our good work together in the coming year.

My best,

Teresa K. Woodruff, Ph.D. (she/her/hers)
Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
MSU Foundation Professor
