The provost and executive vice president for academic affairs is the chief academic officer for the university, providing leadership for matters that affect academic programs, research and outreach involving faculty, students and staff. The provost oversees the quality of programs of instruction and research through collaborative work with deans, departmental chairs and other vice presidents, addressing issues such as effective planning, good management and program reviews. Additionally, the provost is responsible for overseeing academic and budgetary planning and priorities.
Dr. Green serves as a key advisor and strategic partner to the Provost and Executive Vice-President for Academic Affairs. The role advances university-wide academic priorities by leading cross-college initiatives, coordinating executive operations, and representing the provost with internal and external stakeholders. This position oversees the Engagement Team (comprised of Communications and Events), leads special projects; manages and integrates the administrative functions of the Office of the Provost; and serves as a key liaison to deans, vice provosts, assistant provosts, governance bodies, and central administrative partners.

Dr. Hertel leads strategic initiatives that advance institutional priorities across the Office of the Provost and the Office of the President. Her portfolio includes overseeing senior leadership transitions that bridge both offices, driving the Career Connected Spartans initiative to embed career readiness into the undergraduate experience, and representing the Office of the Provost on the Modernization of the General Education Council while chairing the Pathways into MSU subcommittee to strengthen access through practice and policy alignment. She also co-facilitates the integration of the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities into the College of Arts & Letters, aligning academic programs and support systems while fostering a shared culture of collaboration, creativity, and student-centered learning.
Dr. Jeitschko supports the provost in advancing MSU toward strategic goals in research, teaching, and service. This role serves as an advisor to the provost and a leader in the Office of the Provost, providing support on a variety of initiatives, including oversight of the Ethics Institute.

Ryan provides oversight and management of the budgetary, financial analysis and personnel operations of the Office of the Provost. This position also provides analysis and support for the annual academic budget planning process; liaises with the colleges and units that report to the Office of the Provost; and assists other central administrative units on budgetary and personnel matters.

Sue provides high-level administrative and organizational support to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, including managing calendars, scheduling meetings, arranging travel, and overseeing correspondence. The role serves as a key point of coordination for the provost’s daily activities, ensuring that commitments and priorities are managed efficiently and professionally. Additionally, she communicates regularly with stakeholders to support the smooth and effective operation of the provost’s office.
