Mission

The Office of the Provost supports extraordinarily high-quality teaching, research, and outreach and engagement – all in the best sense and spirit of MSU’s land-grant mission and values, and with a focus on expanding opportunities for increased equity and inclusion across all three areas. This mission includes enabling the academic success of every student – from prospect to graduate – and every member of our faculty and academic staff – from recruitment to the university through every stage of professional growth.
 

The work of the Office of the Provost supports academic excellence in teaching, research, and outreach and engagement. Academic excellence and student success constitute the twin pillars of MSU’s academic mission.

The culture and climate of the university shape and influence the work and learning outcomes of its faculty, staff, and students. The Office of the Provost is committed to fostering a healthy, safe, and welcoming culture and climate for everyone at MSU as part of its fundamental values, and as prerequisites for advancing MSU’s academic mission.
Fostering diverse, equitable, and inclusive work and learning environments is a fundamental prerequisite for advancing MSU’s academic mission. The Office of the Provost is evaluating the status quo of structures within the Office of the Provost from an equity lens, with a keen focus on potentially racist and sexist policies, practices, and behaviors that create barriers to success for all members of our MSU community – faculty, staff, and students.
