Final Report of the Spartan Global Learning Initiative
May 27, 2025
Dear Colleagues,
In 2023, we launched the Spartan Global Learning Initiative, a university-wide effort to position global learning as a defining and differentiating part of the MSU experience. The initiative builds on MSU’s longstanding commitment to global engagement and responds to the evolving and urgent needs of a world that is borderless in its challenges yet boundless in its opportunities.
I am pleased to now share the final report of the Spartan Global Learning Initiative Steering Committee, which represents more than a year of thoughtful and collaborative work from a broad group of faculty, staff, students, and academic leaders from across MSU. The report presents a set of recommendations to better embed global learning throughout the university in alignment with MSU’s 2030 Strategic Plan. Most importantly, the report emphasizes that global learning is central to preparing all Spartans to lead and excel within a global society.
Your leadership and support are essential to realize this vision and strengthen MSU’s standing as a leader for comprehensive global learning in higher education. Please review the recommendations outlined in the report, discuss them within your college or unit, and think about ways you could help accelerate and contribute to their implementation.
I want to thank the Spartan Global Learning Initiative leaders and steering committee members for their expertise and commitment, and I want to thank all of you for helping to advance the vision outlined in the report. Together, we can ensure each Spartan is equipped to make meaningful contributions in our modern, interconnected world.
Sincerely,
Thomas
